A look at the representation of women in articles of “national” online news outlets

A sample of the lead articles from 40 national online news outlets finds women as 22 percent of sources and 34.3 percent of authors. However, as we dig a little deeper, further discrepancies turn up in the sourcing of articles by men versus those by women and overall when females are present among the sites’ principal staff.
